Infrastructure

Throughout my campaign to earn your vote for Richardson City Council Place 6, you’ve heard me talk and read my writing about the challenges of infrastructure. You may be wondering what is included in the infrastructure of a city.

Simply put, it’s the numerous facilities that enable a community to function for the benefit of individual and business residents, as well as visitors to Richardson. While the challenges of time and the impact of age on our City’s assets, my initial focus has been on the most critical areas: streets, water and sewer service.

Streets, water and sewer facilities are critical to our daily lives. Like everything in our world, the assets needed to service the public will not last forever. Our City of Richardson staff have been working diligently to maintain them, but for a host of reasons, the number of streets, water lines and sewer lines that are approaching a natural end-of-life are increasing. As a professional engineer,  my experience in designing these facilities for cities across the Metroplex and creating strategies to regain control over the timelines for major repairs will help City Council be better able to address immediate needs without delay.

There are many other assets that help comprise our City’s larger infrastructure picture – from City buildings to parks, traffic signals to a wide range of general and specialized vehicles and equipment – that all have a life cycle for which planning is essential. How key, expensive assets are acquired, maintained, repaired and replaced makes a difference to the people of Richardson in both dependability and total cost over time.

As a City Council member, I will bring the problem solving capabilities of my profession to bear in serving all those who depend on safe, efficient effective infrastructure throughout Richardson.
